The Music of the Mentés Másként Ensemble
The building blocks of the Mentés Másként Ensemble concerts are folk songs, folk music and folk instruments of the „csángó” Hungarians from the region Moldva, in Romania: the plucked folk lute „koboz”, the flute and the fiddle, but we also like to take inspiration from other regions of folk heritage.
We also like to play historic lays, poems set to music, always keeping our focus on folk music as the basic sheet or used as intermezzo of these arrangements. This kind of music could be called folk music „resung”, many of which is published on our CDs: Mentés másként (Save as), Menyegző (Wedding), Élő Nap (Live Day) and the yet to come new CD Útitárs (Fellow-traveller).
As dance-house[i] musicians, folk music collectors, folk music teachers, we conduct deep studies in the mastery of traditional singing and intrumental music and its’ function within folk heritage. With our music students, the folk chamber ensemble Népzenei Kamaraműhely, we organize annual cultural filed trips to the traditionally oriented villages of Moldva, to play music and dance together, and also to publish CDs as contribution of keeping this treasury: Hegyek-völgyek között (Between valley and hills), Karikás tánc (Circle dance). The memories of the preperation for the third recording are still fresh from this Summer.
It is great pride to see our pupils form and nurture their own bands, which also became nationally popular: Korinda, Terebes and Népzenei Kamaraműhely.
